SENECA Workshop

AUEB and Singularlogic , two of the SENECA consortium partners organize a two-day workshop with the goal to introduce to young scientists and professionals in the field of software-engineering, some of the current trends and technologies for the security and operational management of cloud services.

The first day of the workshop will focus on security and privacy issues pertinent to the development and operation of cloud-based services. The first part will host three invited talks focusing on security and privacy aspects of modern services running in the cloud, while providing insights on the challenges faced in real cloud enterprise systems. The second part will introduce Docker container technologies, which implement lightweight OS virtualization as an alternative to VM technologies and they represent one of the current trends in cloud service virtualization. During the workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas on the future adoption of containers in the Cloud market and to get a hands-on training on programming with Docker containers.

The second day of the workshop will start with an extensive presentation on how to achieve scalable data processing by combining popular Unix tools with pipeline operators, which allow streaming a tool’s output to the next’s input. The second part will feature presentations on the latest challenges faced in three cloud infrastructures, GRNET’s, mist’s, and Lamda Helllix’s, and the upcoming trends in the cloud landscape. The day and workshop will end with a tour to GRNET’s data center.
